Carrying the baton
Queen's baton relay for the commonwealth games 2022
Wednesday 27th July 2022
So honoured, Glyn has been chosen to be a batonbearer for the Commonwealth games 2022. To carry the baton along the Queen's baton relay is a moment to treasure - forever.
Pictured here with his proud son and holding the Baton so proudly, Glyn ( along with all other Batonbearers) is a worthy nominee for this special ocassion. With a train strike announced for the 27th of July - this meant that Glyn's autistic son may not be able to get to see his dad carry the baton.
How do you put a moment like this into words?
To carry the Queen's baton through many, many onlookers is such an emotional journey.
The emotion was heightened when a 'GOOD' Samaritan offered to drive Glyn's son from Walsall to Birmingham to witness Glyn's great moment. The day that Glyn was carrying the baton was also the day the the train workers union (RMT) called a strike - meaning that Glyn's son would not be able to join his dad.
With a rail strike announced for the 27th of July, Glyn was upset that his son Liam wouldn't be able to see him carry the Baton. ITV's Central news featured Glyn and Liam's sad story - what followed was a flood of offers to drive Liam to Birmingham.
Michael Merrison drove Liam in his limousine to Northfield so Liam was able to witness a great moment in Glyn's life.
The Marston family are forever grateful to Michael.
